Following our work removing the mezzanine from The Barn last year, creating an arch to save our heads, replacing the front door and redesigning the boot room (more on these last two soon, I promise!) I’ve been turning my attention to the Parlour.
We just love this space with it’s fireplace and antique coal burner, beautiful tiled floor and oak beams!
But we wanted to transform the space from a walk-through connecting two parts of the house and make it more workable as a room with a purpose and definitely more light. With a shared love of books and reading we’ve decided to make it a small library with bespoke built in bookcases – a cosy space perfect for curling up in with a good book or for chilling out with a large cup of coffee. Heaven!
Often statement pieces we love help to create a theme for a room and just before Christmas I found these gorgeous French chateau-style chairs from WITHIN Home.
Hand-carved in solid mango wood with well padded upholstery in dove grey and gorgeous detailing, the Rochelle is one of their best sellers – and I can see why! They are so comfortable and really set an elegant tone for the room, picking up the grey tones in our painting (from John Lewis; our favourite department store) and the floor tiles.
In the Spring we’ll be starting the a new building project to increase light in the parlour (I shot these on a particularly bright day but still had to edit the shots so you could see the detail), design the bookcases, alter the fireplace which I feel is too dark for the room and find the perfect vintage radiator to replace the existing one that’s covered up. I’d also love to add the WITHIN Home Filou foot stool and Collette side table to the chairs to complete the look.
What are your fab furniture finds or remodelling projects for 2016?
Beautiful and very chic. They are lovely, really adding such a statement in there. Love the floor. Thanks for linking up! Jess xx

These look lovely, and the room perfect for reading in due to all the natural light. We are still finishing off our utility and downstairs bathroom……9 months after starting it! Just too many others things to do with a toddler in the house. At least the washing machine and the toilet are plumbed in. The essentials! 🙂 #sharethejoylinky
They look great Michelle, stylish and comfy. And it’s a lovely idea to have a cosy reading nook 🙂 x #sharethejoy
Thanks Steph they really are super comfy and great value too x
These are lovely. Really go with the style of the room. Love the idea of a little library! #sharethejoy
I know right? Books lining the walls, a fire in the log burner, curling up with a hot coffee… heaven!
Love those chairs Michelle, they’re gorgeous!
I’d really like to have a new bathroom installed this year, just need to get around to it! 😉
Ooo exciting – I know what you mean, my office is in desperate need of a makeover but it’s at the bottom of the list!
I love the sound of sitting down here with a book and a cuppa. Looks like you’ve created a lovely space 🙂

I know right? Just need to get started on the plans… thanks honey x
I want a new sofa / chairs now! These are stunning 🙂
Thanks! They were good value too – in the Winter sale 🙂
They definitely look like you can just sink into them and be cosy. I think your house must be magnificent, I have to poke the little green eyed monster away each time I see bits! Mich x
Haha thanks Mich! We are blessed to have found our dream home and the chairs are super comfy 🙂
They are stunning ! Love the depth of the cushions x #sharethejoylinky
That’s what attracted me to them too – I could just imagine sinking into them with a cup of hot coffee – yay!
What a beautifully calm space you have created – I can imagine snuggling up in there by the fire to read a good book in the winter, or chatting to friends with the windows wide open during the summer months!
Thanks Amanda! Yup me too – although it’s quite a dark area so I can’t wait to get some more light in there this Spring once we’ve cemented our plans. Fingers crossed!
This looks so incredible. I love how organized and neat and fabulous this is.
Thanks so much! I MAY have styled the room just a little bit…. (aka shoved the mess into one corner!)
Beautiful chairs – they look so, so comfy too. Your home is beautiful – and what a lovely project to have. We did a huge renovation project last year and now it’s time to furnish and decorate our place which will take a while. I’m a big fan of Scandinavian stuff and my latest furniture purchase was an elegant sofa by Hay Design – beautiful too look at but not great as a main sofa as it’s not soft and squidgy! For us it’s a second sofa so it’s ideal as that.
Thanks so much Nomita, we do love it! I’ve bought the furniture BEFORE we finish renovating the parlour, which is the wrong way round to be honest, but they’ve given us the theme for the room and I couldn’t pass them up! Can’t wait to see how your house looks xx
Love the chairs! Can really imagine having a cup of coffee and realising there! You are doing an an ding job! Btw life the video too x
Thanks Mirka! They are super comfortable and just perfect for relaxing in – now just need to get the rest of the room finished 🙂 xx
